Lake Allatoona Fishing Guides Report March. ( Week 2 )

This Lake Allatoona fishing guides report for striper and hybrid has been brought to you exclusively by Robert Eidson of First Bite Guide Service, 770 827-6282. www.firstbiteguideservice.com Lake Allatoona, Georgia email: eidson6260@comcast.net.

Line side fishing is Improving ! The water is starting to warm and so is the fishing. The white Bass are schooling on all the flats north of the S-Turns all the way up to Fields Landing. And can be caught in numbers on spoons and Roster-tails. The stripes and Hybrids are also starting to bite, they are scatter from one end of the lake to the other right now. But should start to school up in the next two weeks for the spring river run. Trout fished on planner boards and flat-lines in the back of the creeks and main lake pockets has been working best. Jerry Floyd of www.lakeallatoonafishing.net caught his personal best ( 24 1/2 lb Striper ) using this technique earlier this week.

Trolling is also starting to pick up. I have gotten some really good reports that stripes and Hybrids are being caught on umbrella rigs from Galts Ferry north to the S-Turns.

Top Water - We are starting to see some top water action in the morning but is very short and limited. The top water bite will improve as the water warms. So keep a Jr Spook ready … Spring is almost here and so is the bite. We are all ready starting to book up for April but still have some good days open for the end of March and most of April. Give us a call at 770 827-6282 to check availability.

Line side fishing is poor. Nothing has change since last week. but The lake is really starting to clear on the north-end from the S-Turns all the way to Knots Bridge. And then again south from Iron Hill to the dam. The main lake is still stain but is know where near as bad as it was last week. The shad kill seems to be all most over on the main lake. But there is still dying shad in the back of most south-end creeks. Fishing should get back to normal as soon as the lake level stabilizes and clears. The key to catching fish when the bite turns back on is to find clear water. The backs of the creeks like Kellogg’s Creek, Clear Creek, Stamp Creek, Clark Creek and Iron Hill will clear first and will be your best bet. Small baits trout, shiners and shad fished on planner boards and free lines will be your best bet. We are still getting reports of a few schools of Hybrids and Stripers busting top water right before dark at Bartow Carver beach. Hopefully this is a sign of good things to come. Trolling is still poor but should pick back up as the water clears. This was the worst Feb I can remember in my 45 years of fishing Lake Allatoona. Hopefully March 2010 will be remember as the best I have seen in 45 years…….

Line-sides, Poor. The fishing is still on the poor side, but the lake is starting to clear. The lake is still heavily stain but isn’t rolling mud like weeks past.. The shad kill seems to be over and fishing should get back to normal as soon as.the lake level stabilizes and clears. The key to catching fish when the bite turns back on is to find clear water. The backs of the creeks ( Kellogg’s, Clear, Stamp and Iron Hill ) will clear first and will be your best bet. Small baits trout, shiners and shad fished on planner boards and free-lines will be your best bet. We are still getting reports of a few schools of Hybrids and Stripers busting top water right before dark at Bartow Carver beach. Hopefully this is a sign of good things to come. Trolling is poor and until the lake clears up trolling isn’t worth the time or gas. This has been the worst Feb I can remember. Hopefully March will be better. Until the fishing picks back up on Lake Allatoona, we will be moving all of our trips to Lanier.

Striper and hybrid fishing is poor. With all the rain and snow we have had over the past two weeks the lake got with in 5 feet of summer full pool. The COE is releasing water all day and night now to get the lake level back down to winter pool level. The lake is dropping at a rate of a foot a day. The lake is still muddy and debris is everywhere. The shad kill is still going on but is starting to taper off. I look for the fishing to pick back up as soon as the level stabilizes. The key to catching fish when the bite turns back on is to find clear water. The backs of the creeks will clear first and will be your best bet. Small baits trout, shiners and shad fished on planner boards and free-lines will be your best bet. We did receive a report earlier this week that there are a few schools of Hybrids and Stripers busting top water right before dark at Bartow Carver beach. Hopefully this is a sign of good things to come. Trolling is poor and until the lake clears up trolling isn’t worth the time or gas. Until the fishing picks back up on Lake Allatoona, we will be moving all of our trips to Lanier and Carters Lakes.

Stripers: Brutal , The recent rains we have had has bought the lake up Another 6 feet in the last week. And is rolling mud-heavily from one end of the lake to the other. There are still dead shad on the lake but more sporadic then weeks past. I am looking for the shad kill to be completely finish in the next two weeks. Fishing should get back to nomal shortly after. The key to catching fish when the bite turns back on is to find clear water. The backs of the creeks will clear first and will be your best bet. Small baits trout, shiners and shad fished on planner boards and free-lines will be your best bet.

Stripers: Poor , The rain we had last week has bought the lake level up more then six feet in less then a week. The lake is rolling mud on the north and south ends off the lake. The rest of the lake is heavily stain. The shad kill is Still in full swing and there are dead shad and gulls everywhere. This is with out question the biggest shad kill we have had in years. This has and will make fishing tough for a few more weeks but in the long run it will be a big benefit to all anglers this coming spring.

If you just got to get out and try you luck be sure to take some small shiners and jigging spoons. Also try a medium-sized shiner fished under a cork, like you’re crappie fishing. Watch your fish-finder for big schools of bait that are near the top of the water column, 10 to 12 feet deep. You’ll see some shad on top that are dying,” . and fish the edge of the dying bait. Look for these fish to be 2/3 of the way in back of the creeks.

Stripers: Poor , The shad kill is in full swing and there are dead shad and gulls everywhere. There are even died shad on the banks inside the marina’s right now. The lake is stain from one end to the other and the water temp is in the high 30Th’s to low 40Th’s. This is with out question the biggest shad kill we have had in years. This has and will make fishing tough for a few weeks but in the long run it will be a big benefit to all anglers this coming spring.

Stripers: Fair at best, The shad kill has started and there are gulls everywhere. There are even died shad on the banks right now. The lake is stain from one end to the other and the water temp is in the high 30Th’s to low 40Th’s. There is a very good chance that this will be the biggest shad kill we have had in years. Line-Sides is Fair at best. This burtal cold weather we are having has given the fish lock jaw. The water temperture is falling fast, and I look for the shad kill to start early this year.

If you are willing to brave the cold then mid-lake would be your best bet. Try to find the clearest water posible and fish Shiners, shad and small trout on free-lines and planner boards. Remember to down size your hooks to match your shiners for more strikes.

After the sun comes up switch to pulling umbrella Rigs. I have had my best luck this week pulling my rigs 145 feet behind the boat at 3.1 to 3.4 miles and hour.. As the lake starts to clears and the temperture starts to warm back up I look for the umbrella rig bite to get great.
